Publications & conference presentations

A chapter co-authored by HELP Research and Single Adult Services department staff was recently published in Pandemic Preparedness & Homelessness: International Lessons from Covid-19 (Canadian Observatory on Homelessness).  It details the performance of a Covid-19 peer vaccine support program that was co- designed by both departments and implemented and implemented by client “peers” and frontline staff in three shelters. We found that this approach worked — with vaccination rates at peer-led sites reaching 72% at the end of the program as compared to 58% at sites that did not have peer-led groups. Our peer-led site vaccination rates were  also statically on par with NYC’s general population, with one site exceeding it at 86%. Click the link above for more details!

An article, “Addressing Risks and Reducing Homelessness of Vulnerable Parenting Youths: An Implementation and Impact Evaluation of HELP USA’s New Beginnings Program” was accepted for publication by the International Journal on Homelessness in September. The paper was also accepted for presentation at the International Conference on the Prevention of Youth Homelessness to be held in Toronto in February 2025.
