BRONX, N.Y., September 24, 2026 — HELP USA and the Office of Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson brought health, wellness and back-to-school resources directly to families at HELP USA’s Crotona I family shelter on Wednesday, September 23.
The family health and wellness back-to-school event provided families with backpacks, school supplies and toys, along with health screenings, wellness resources and information from community organizations.
“We’re so happy to bring everyone together and provide backpacks, health screenings, and other health and wellness resources to families at Crotona,” said Dan Lehman, President and CEO of HELP USA. “We’re grateful to Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson for partnering with us to make this event possible.”
Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson joined HELP USA leadership and staff, families, and community partners at the event, speaking with residents and highlighting the importance of connecting Bronx families with accessible services.
“We are here to serve all the residents, all the families and children,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson. “We work with trusted partners like HELP USA to bring resources directly to families, from healthcare and children’s health to the support they need throughout the school year.”
Morris Heights Health Center provided health and wellness resources, including blood pressure screenings. The NYC Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence also participated, connecting families with information and resources.
For families at Crotona I, the event helped ease some of the costs that come with the start of a new school year.
“Overall, I think it’s a great help because sometimes we don’t have the financial means to even buy a backpack or school supplies, and this helps and supports you so that the children can continue studying,” said one mother at Crotona I.
The event is part of HELP USA’s broader work to serve families experiencing homelessness and connect shelter residents with resources and services that support their path toward greater stability.
