In honor of Pride Month, we’d like to highlight an exciting HELP USA building under construction in The Bronx. Crotona North will have 84 apartments for formerly homeless and low-income seniors in an LGBTQ-friendly environment. This groundbreaking project, which is currently under construction, will be the first of its kind in the Bronx, and just the second in New York City.
The first floor of Crotona North will have an LGBTQ senior center run by SAGE. The center will offer health and cultural programs, meals, and a computer “cyber center.”
Crotona North Apartments will be located in the South Bronx.
The SAGE LGBTQ senior center will offer programs and hot meals.
Crotona North’s interior will be modern and beautifully designed.
The building will have several green features, including a solar array on the roof.
When Crotona North was first announced in 2017, The New York Times described the project in an article about the importance of LGBTQ-friendly senior housing. One woman who was interviewed, Mary Ellen, explained that a building like Crotona North “would answer my prayers. We [LGBTQ community members] would all look out for each other, be our eyes and ears. I think that understanding and awareness would be there.”
