Since 2011, HELP USA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program in the Bronx has been working at the cutting edge of veteran homelessness prevention. Every day, the SSVF team works with veterans and veteran families that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
SSVF helps families maintain their housing and helps them find new housing if they need it. They also assist with covering expenses that could threaten housing stability, such as back rent, healthcare, transportation, and childcare. The result: more than 80% of veterans served by SSVF remain in stable housing for at least a year after they receive assistance.
Linson Bailey, Executive Director of HELP’s SSVF program, and his team of 21 dedicated staff members are not just serving veterans, but they’re also doing it more effectively than 90% of SSVF programs nationwide. In fact, HELP USA’s SSVF program was recently selected as one of the top 25 in the country. The HELP team is now a “mentor” organization, and responsible for teaching techniques and best practices to five other programs in NY and NJ.
