Bloomingdale's "Fashionable Fundraiser" to Benefit Mentoring USA Seasonal Shopping Event To Benefit National Charity
February 2009, New York, NY . . . Continuing its partnership with Mentoring USA beyond January's National Mentoring Month, Bloomingdale's has selected the organization as the beneficiary of its nationwide "Fashionable Fundraiser" event. The event, to be held on Wednesday, February 25, has in the past been a successful tool in raising awareness and funds for local charities, but this year promises to be better than ever. For the first time ever, the proceeds of Bloomingdale's semi-annual fundraiser will reach beyond local aid to benefit this deserving national charity.
Highlighting the commitment to the success of this year's event, Bloomingdale's New York City locations at 59th Street and SoHo will take part in the "Fashionable Fundraiser" for the first time. The event invites shoppers to support Bloomingdale's and its involvement in its communities. Customers will have the opportunity to shop for a cause, enjoy special offers, and find out more about Mentoring USA and how to get involved in their own communities. Bloomingdale's pledges to make a donation of $75,000 to Mentoring USA, which the organization will use to fund established and future programs.
"Being able to support Mentoring USA on a national level is very fulfilling for Bloomingdale's," said Anne Keating, senior vice president of public relations, special events and corporate philanthropy at Bloomingdale's. "Our partnership is more than eleven years strong, and we continue to grow it each year. We look forward to more and more of our employees becoming mentors!"
Mentoring USA pairs at-risk youths across the country with inspirational adult mentors who can guide them in developing better self-esteem, creating healthy relationships, and making positive life choices. The "Fashionable Fundraiser" will allow Bloomingdale's to be a part of Mentoring USA's continued success by providing the much-needed funds that make it possible to continue their important programs.
For the past eleven years, Bloomingdale's volunteers in New York City have devoted their time to mentoring elementary school children at PS 59, a public school in Manhattan, through the Mentoring USA program. Currently more than 70 store executives spend one hour each week with their mentees, talking, sharing, tutoring, and encouraging the kids to dream big for their future.
Bloomingdale's is America's only nationwide, full-line, upscale department store; and a division of Macy's, Inc. It was founded in 1872 and currently operates 40 stores in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, Minnesota, Georgia, Florida, Nevada and California.
