Mentoring

The 2008-2009 Mentoring USA program year ended on Saturday, June 13th with the annual Goldman Sachs sponsored picnic at Mount Morris Park.
Despite a few rain showers, spirits were high and fun was had by all the mentees, mentors, parents and program partners in attendance.
Other year end program highlights include:
*All students participating in MUSA for the 2008-2009 school year will matriculate to the next grade level at all program sites.
*Chicago and Washington, DC program expansion planned for fall 2009.
*New program partnerships with Dr. Oz's HealthCorps and Mayor Bloomberg's NYC Service campaign will allow Mentoring USA to expand our peer mentoring framework to serve middle school and high school students in the fall.
*As training and technical assistance partners to Susan Taylor's National CARES Mentoring Movement, the Harlem CARES circle launched with 58 mentors, service providers, and mentees trained to date.
*In effort to combat a NY State childhood obesity rate of 25%, USTA Quick Start tennis launched at Harlem and Newark program sites; Houston and Vegas programs will launch in fall '09.
*2 mentees from PS 154 win a trip to visit the White House--a result of testing two levels above current grade, in reading. April Washington, a MUSA mentee, won the schools first prize - scoring 100 percent on a reading quiz contest.
